Launch & Learn – TEAM with Quality Matters™: Together Everyone Achieves More

The audience will learn that it takes a TEAM to implement a QM initiative. We will describe an implementation plan, highlight data showing progress of success, and identify best practices and challenges involved in implementing QM in a nursing program. The presentation will showcase resources that encourage colleague engagement. Reflections from various colleagues (including administrator, faculty and Instructional Designer) will be included.

Making Quality Standard: Building a Sustainable Quality Assurance Culture and Establishing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

Let's be honest: the QM Rubric can be downright scary! One way to help faculty and IDs apply the Rubric is to establish a standard operating procedure (SOP). The goal of a SOP is to map each step in applying the QM Standards, giving the ID and faculty member an overview of the course development process. This session will first look at California State University - East Bay's current three-year quality assurance initiative and then examine the SOP developed to implement it. Participants will also be invited to share procedures established on their campuses.

Mastering the Online Teaching Path: Integrating QM Standards in an Online Teaching Certificate

Online faculty development programs have become critical for academic staff in higher education. The Pathway to Master Online Instructor Program was created to meet faculty's needs in course design, delivery, and course improvement. A study,based on Phase 1 of the program, examined the design of an online teaching certificate course developed according to QM standards. The presentation reports the results of the study and provides opportunities for participants to explore the relationship between QM essential Standards and faculty-perceived learning.

A lack of resources - both funding and peer support - continues to be a barrier for institutions transitioning from traditional classroom structures to online or hybrid forums.  We know that faculty collaboration, both institutionally and nationally, is key to successful delivery change.  How can we use our existing resources to provide scalable and sustainable tools to support faculty with this delivery change?

Online Student Orientation: The Impact on Grades, Retention, and Preparedness

ASU's Online Campus created, designed, and implemented a one-week online student orientation course last fall for a subset of its online population.  The results -- increased student retention, decreased DEW rates higher grades in subsequent courses, and prepared students.  Find out what we did, how we did it, and why we are expanding the orientation to all ASU Online students.

Participation in QM Professional Development and Its Impact on Face-to-Face Teaching

Quality Matters conducts multiple professional development workshops aimed at improving online course design. Workshop participants who also teach face-to-face often report that their workshop experiences have had a beneficial effect on their face-to-face teaching. This session will present preliminary results from a research project that investigated ways in which participation in a QM professional development program has had an impact on an instructor's teaching across different delivery formats.

Put on Your Cultural Glasses and Jump! Transforming Regular Assignments into Active Learning Experience

Active learning research demonstrated that by adding student agency, peer review and reflection, collaboration and cultural awareness, students learning is greatly enhanced in terms of motivation, engagement and learning outcome. Adjusting the assignment to be culturally responsive is like putting on a pair of cultural glasses, and adding agency, reflection and collaboration to the assignment is like taking 3 jumps in the transforming process.

Quality Matters Program Certification, Is It Worth It?

Is
quality of course design enough? Quality Matters' new program certification
broadens and strengthens the notion of quality assurance. Early in 2015 the
University of the Rockies had the opportunity to participate in the Quality
Matters program certification pilot. This session will address strategies for
obtaining leadership buy-in and lessons learned from the entire experience. A
Q&A session will follow the 15-minute presentation.
