An Experiment in Equity: Developing Online Labs for Science

ACCESS struggled to provide safe and effective labs for students in fully online courses. No matter how simple the equipment list, students had difficulty finding resources, time, space, and support for hands-on labs. Faced with issues of equity, ACCESS began developing its own online labs. In this session, we will:

•        Discuss factors of equity in hands-on labs

•        Analyze data on the impact of online labs

•        Outline the development process for online labs, including design choices

AI Stands for Anxiously Innovating: Best Practices for Course Development

When ChatGPT burst onto the scene a few years ago, it was clear it would change how people worked. In this session, we will follow ACCESS Virtual Learning’s journey in implementing AI in course development from the perspective of a leader who is an AI novice, including:

•   Creating position statements, usage guidelines, citation formats, and acknowledgment forms

•   Balancing diverse institutional AI policies and needs

•   Building support for AI use in stakeholders

•   Collaborating on ethical practices in AI

Low Effort, High Impact Accessible Content Tips for All Learners

There are benefits for ALL students when we proactively design learning environments and resources that are accessible. Armed with simple but effective best practices, we can begin to remove barriers to learning with digital content. These improvements will benefit all learners, including students with disabilities, language needs, and varying learning styles. Designing accessible materials requires time, resources, and knowledge to implement, which is why we highlight "Low Effort, High Impact" tips that can help any educator or team get started.
