Breaking it Down to Build it Better: Deconstruction for Quality Implementation

In this session, participants will learn how to critically analyze their course structure, content, and design methods to identify areas for improvement. Since we are breaking down existing content, learners will be equipped with tools and strategies to rebuild and implement best practices that ensure a high-quality, student-centered learning environment. This training will foster a deeper understanding of quality assurance principles including alignment and provide actionable insights on how to refine courses for both immediate impact and long-term success.

Breeze through 5 QM Standards with CourseArc

With the right tool you can easily meet 5 of the QM Standards. CourseArc makes assessment, alignment, engaging activities, technology tools, and accessibility a breeze. Come vote on the standards and CourseArc examples you want to see and discuss.  We will provide an overview of tools that can help meet each standard and examples of the tool in action from classes at Idaho Digital Learning Alliance.  There will be discussion time and Q&A following each feature demonstration.

Building a Culture of Accessibility and Inclusion by Utilizing UDL in Online Course Design

An ongoing effort of The Center for Teaching & Learning is to improve the quality of teaching at Governors State University. The primary goal of this initiative is to improve awareness of accessibility to reduce barriers that students may face in courses. The BCA Initiative seeks to resolve challenges with accessibility in online and hybrid courses at GSU. Further, with a focus on Universal Design and QM Standard 8, the initiative will benefit all students, not just those with disabilities.

Building a Culture of Quality--Alignment, Alignment, Alignment

This presentation reports on an effort to dramatically increase the quality of online and hybrid courses through the coordinated implementation of a replacement LMS with components of instructional design and Quality Matters. In a cross-functional, team-based approach, the institution adapted and approved an instructional design model and process, a course development lifecycle and checklist, an LMS course development template, a formal formative evaluation stage, and a Quality Matters review.

Building a Network of Peer Reviewers

This session will discuss the collaborative efforts of three community colleges in southern WV to provide a Shared Peer Reviewer Network. Using the statewide subscriber managed review process, the network of reviewers will provide a cost effective model to deliver quality online courses to rural WV at no additional cost. A discussion of the concept at the state level and the implementation plans from the three institutional perspectives will be given. Providing the appropriate tools, involving faculty, and collaboration are the key components of this project and will be examined.

Building an Online Ed.D. Program on a Foundation of Research-Based Best Practices

This session chronicles the initiative of a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program to improve the quality of its online courses. The initiative included three objectives in the application of research-based best practices for online course design: (1) train faculty, (2) provide internal resources and guidance, and (3) achieve external certification of Ed.D. program courses. As a result of the successful completion of these objectives, the program outcomes included: improved online student experiences; faculty, course, and program recognition; and a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
