More than MET: Using Inclusive Pedagogy to Support QM Standards

Description

Classrooms continue to become more diverse. Students at all academic levels enter the classroom with various, unique needs. How do we ensure that students can participate? That all students are represented in the course? That everyone's needs are met? By designing courses with the Inclusive Pedagogy (IP) framework, faculty, and instructional designers can create courses that support and provide equity for all learners and fulfill QM standards. The IP framework has three foundational elements: creating a transparent design, facilitating transformative experiences, and providing just representation. These elements create "mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors" in the curriculum so all students can see their current selves, envision future possibilities, and have opportunities to experience learning in personal and meaningful ways.   During this session, participants will explore the IP framework and its alignment with QM standards. Each element will be defined using established and supported research relating to Transparency in Teaching and Learning, Transformative Learning Theory and High Impact Practices, Universal Design for Learning, and Culturally Relevant Teaching.
