Connection, community, support, and inclusion are critical to establishing a foundation for learning. Cultivating a sense of belonging is crucial for this foundation. We will talk about the science and research behind sense of belonging and its connection to learning and mental health and wellbeing. The panel will also specifically talk about how fostering a sense of belonging is vitally important within digital learning environment not only for your learners but also for yourself as an educator.

Supporting Student Learning: How SEL Drives Learning Success

The business of schools can be summed up in two words-- relationships and learning. As SEL core competencies---self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness skills---are intentionally embedded into classroom learning---whether virtual or face-to-face, educators are equipping students with skills that encourage their social development and draw them into the process of learning that promotes their desire to learn.

In this presentation, the Coordinator of Course Development for Launch (operating out of Springfield Public Schools in Missouri) discusses how project management has helped her team of instructional designers and quality assurance specialists.

Student Centered Online Program

From recruiting and onboarding to enrollment, there are definite steps that lead to an online program that is student-centered and focused on success. This highly engaging session will focus on setting the stage for student success and retention in online programs, and resources for the session will be both synchronous and asynchronous so that participants can share and access materials long after the conference has concluded.

Achieving Synergy with Inter-Connected Components

How do you present to course designers and developers, as well as online instructors that SEL, UDL, and QM Rubric standards are essential? In this presentation walk away with strategies, resources and supports that foster a collective efficacy for SEL Framework, UDL Framework, and QM K12 Rubric so that it is NOT seen as "just one more thing." We will share how deliver it in a way that it shows how these components are inter-dependent and when used together in a synergistic approach, are what best supports the online learner.

Using UX Design Principles to Meet Quality Standards in Elementary Courses

When faced with the task of designing asynchronous courses for elementary school students, VirtualSC designers worked to merge best practices of instructional design with those used in designing apps for children. In this session, the team will demonstrate the resulting course elements and how they are being used in the development of elementary math and social studies courses.
