Standard 6: Choosing and Using Media EffectivelyThis two-week workshop introduces participants to a variety of tools that can be used in online and blended courses to meet Standard 6 of the Quality Matters rubric. All of the tools are low threshold applications or instructional technology tools that are reliable, accessible, easy to learn, and inexpensive for both faculty and students (Gilbert, 2002). The workshop gives special attention to aligning the media and tools with course goals and objectives; in other words, course pedagogy drives the use of instructional technology. Using one of the low threshold tools, participants create a small chunk of course content that helps them meet the Standard 6 criteria and helps students to achieve a specific learning objective in their courses. Audience: New and experienced online faculty; instructional designers The Standard 6 workshop is offered online and is 2 weeks in length. It is estimated that this online workshop will require approximately six to ten hours over a ten-day period. Fees are $150 for QM Subscribers and $200 for Non-Subscribers. This workshop can also be provided as a half-day F2F session at your institution. Please see this document for fee schedule, or click the "Request Onsite Training" link on the Training page for more information.
